About Camp [-]

Summer Film Camp, presented by Austin Film Festival’s Young Filmmakers Program, returns for its 11th year of screenwriting, filmmaking and claymation workshops for aspiring filmmakers ages 9-18. These hands-on workshops, led by inspired industry pros, teach campers how to find and tell their own stories, as well as the basic steps in making films. This immersion in a creative world is not only skill-building and idea-triggering, it’s also really, really, fun. This year, classes include Claymation Creations, Funny Shorts, Action Shorts, Scary Shorts and more! Classes are grouped in age ranges 9-12 and 13-18. Workshops offer students unparalleled access to in-depth, personal instruction from industry professionals. This year, Summer Film Camp will be held at St. Austin Catholic School, located at 1911 San Antonio St., Austin, TX 78705.

In addition to workshop sessions, campers are provided with opportunities to participate in panel discussions with special guest speakers. Past Speakers include John Lee Hancock (Writer/Director of THE ROOKIE and THE BLIND SIDE), Anne Rapp (screenwriter - DR. T AND THE WOMEN, script supervisor - FUNNY PEOPLE, HE'S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU), Dan French (Emmy® nominated late-night comedy writer), and many more. Topics are based on the distinct expertise and experiences of these creative heroes, who not only inspire campers but talk to them about the bigger world of film. All completed camp films will premier at the Summer Film Camp Showcase. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate these films on the big screen! Students will also receive a DVD copy of their film. Lunch is NOT provided. Snacks and juice from Whole Foods Market will be available for each workshop. Students may bring their own lunch or additional snack if needed. Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle. Austin Film Festival Summer Film Camp is sponsored by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin, Whole Foods Market, Texas Commission on the Arts, KVUE Austin, and SHWEIKI Media.

About Austin Film Festival: Austin Film Festival (AFF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to furthering the art, craft, and business of filmmakers and screenwriters. In addition to a robust list of year-round events, AFF is producing its 20th Annual Film Festival & Conference in 2013. AFF is known as a uniquely pro-artist and interactive idea exchange. Its uncommonly loyal following is due to the fact that the organization has spotlighted the minds and imaginations behind projects for two decades—a trend now picking up steam in the industry. As director and producer Ron Howard said, Austin Film Festival “is really about creativity, about trying to help people find their voice. You sense it. There’s a spirit of camaraderie that's palpable.” AFF is a greenhouse for projects and a clubhouse for legendary and emerging artists.
