The three courses being offered are Eco Art, Adventure Science and Conservation Science. Each will meet entirely in the outdoors and contain elements of adventure education, natural history, ecology, stewardship, and service learning. Eco Art will focus on creating three-dimensional art pieces w/ recycled, found and biotic materials and discuss the concept of four-dimensional art by adding the element of time through motion and the natural process of change through chemical and biological means. Projects will include functional art, including birdhouses, feeders, nesting platforms, raptor perches, habitat placards on natural materials and hidden displays in tree stumps. Adventure Science will address basic geology, chemistry, physics and ecology through the study of a variety of outdoor disciplines. Climbing and rappelling, experimentation in skydiving and bungee jumping, paddling science and backpacking will be used to study physics. Geology will be addressed through the exploration of rock climbing and spelunking. Chemistry will be addressed through the exploration of the nutritional and medicinal properties of wild edibles, water and soil purification and quality testing.
