Forestry Camp is a 5-day residential, outdoor workshop for 13 to 17 year olds. It's a great way for youth to learn about how New Mexicans use, care for, and appreciate the natural and cultural resources on their public lands. Resource professionals work with campers to learn about trees, streams, archaeology, insects, wildland fire, range management, wildlife, outdoor ethics, and soils and geology.
We are looking for a new location for Forestry Camp. Camp was held at Rancho del Chaparral Camp in the Jemez Mountains near Cuba, New Mexico. The 1,200-acre camp, located along the Rio de las Vacas at about 8,000 feet elevation, provides an ideal setting with beautiful ponderosa pine, aspen, oak, and mixed conifer trees. Field trips were taken on the surrounding Santa Fe National Forest and other locations. Meals were served in the dining hall, and campers, counselors and staff slept in platform tents. For an in-depth look at forestry camp.
