Located on the rugged Downeast coast of Maine, MESSY is a summer camp like no other! At MESSY, you'll engage in hands-on learning that is focused on environmental education, stewardship, and sustainability. You will have the opportunity to work alongside University of Maine at Machias faculty, actively participating in important work in the field and in the classroom. Spend a week exploring coastal marine life and investigating local streams and forests to create solutions for real-world environmental problems.
Students entering grades 6-12 are eligible to participate in MESSY, and campers spend the week living on campus in one of UMM's residence halls. When you're not engaged in learning sessions, you'll have the opportunity to take part in a variety of recreation activities including hiking, canoeing, swimming, and sports. You'll also have access to UMM's indoor swimming pool and game room facilities during your stay, and all meals are provided by or in the University's dining facilities.
