About Camp [-]

Bay State Fencers is pleased to offer a series of Summer Fencing Programs for youth fencers of various ages and skill levels. Each program is designed for the particular age group and skill level. If you have any questions about placement please speak to Stacy Eddy, Director.

Fencing Coach/Instructor:

Gary teaches Foil, Epee and Sabre to the young and not-so-young. He takes pride in teaching HONOR and RESPECT along with the skills and tactics of Olympic Sport Fencing.  He is also an award winning Fight Choreographer, having staged combat for many area theatrical productions and operas.
His students have been on US and International Points Lists, and he can provide lessons that will suit the need of all levels of student.
Gary is also available as a MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER.  Hear his story of inspiration and how he overcame a near tragic accident to become an elite athlete.

Gary is also the only US Fencing Officials Commission Referee Instructor/Examiner in the state of Texas. He has officiated at numerous National and International events for both Fencing and Modern Pentathlon.
Don't be surprised; Gary teaches full able-bodied fencing at Texas State University in San Marcos,
St. Edwards University in Austin, and gives lessons to a number of other programs around central/south Texas.  He is an award winning fight choreographer as well, having staged combat for over one dozen productions.
As a "walker" it was not until 2000 that he discovered he was eligible for the Paralympic "seated" form of fencing.  He began training and competing on the international stage. By the year 2004, his world ranking led him to a position on the US Team in Athens.  Following the Athens Games, Gary retired from International competition to focus on his coaching, but came out of retirement in 2011 to win the Pan American Epee Championships in Brazil and make the US team competing in London in 2012. He finally retired from competition with a top 12 World Ranking.
