Ithaca, NY--The fourth annual Cayuga Wheelchair Sports Camp will be held on the Ithaca College campus Saturday and Sunday, June 12-13. With offerings in basketball, tennis, track and field, and dance, the camp is designed to give disabled youths ages 8-16 the same experiences conventional sports camps offer to other children.
"This is a unique opportunity for the kids to learn and have fun," says camp director Liz Vance, a lecturer in the Department of Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Services at Ithaca College. In addition to having been involved with the Special Olympics Adapted Games at the College, Vance, a certified therapeutic recreation specialist, has worked at the Ithaca Youth Bureau, where she implemented programs for adults and youth with developmental disabilities.
