Freetown Village's mission is to educate the public about African American lives and culture in Indiana through living history performances, the collection and preservation of artifacts, exhibits and allied programs.
To provide learning experiences in the history and culture of African Americans in Indiana.
•To provide a historic resource center.
•To encourage study and research about the past.
•To provide a forum for historical entertainment and presentations.
•To foster and promote understanding and respect for the history of African American culture and its contributions to our society.
To reach a broader audience, there is a continual search for new ways to tell a story. With new programs, workshops, expanded offerings, and even greater flexibility to provide services to the public, Freetown Village is seeking support to take on the challenges of the future.
On Freetown Village's wish list is the development of a village site in Indianapolis. The village will house representative buildings to facilitate the presentation of Freetown's annual programs. Visitors will be able to mingle and visit with the "residents" in their homes and businesses.
