Chewonki is an environmental education organization based in Wiscasset, Maine, that inspires transformative growth, teaches appreciation and stewardship of the natural world, and challenges people to build thriving, sustainable communities throughout their lives. Chewonki began in 1915 as a camp for boys but has grown to comprise the boys camp; adventures for girls; semester school for outstanding high-school juniors; traveling natural history programs that our teachers take to libraries, schools, and other community venues; an outdoor classroom for visiting school groups; and wilderness trips for teens, adults, and families. Through its educational initiatives, Chewonki demonstrates and teaches the importance of living sustainably.
