Beautiful Camp Lawroweld is nestled at the base of several mountains on a 1,000-foot frontage of Lake Webb. It occupies 200 acres of land on which is situated a very impressive lodge built of weathered field stone and solid rock maple logs. In this lodge there are two fireplaces; the larger accomodates six foot logs and has a mantle of green Vermont granite weighing three tons. Camp Lawroweld is fully dedicated to the needs of the blind. For one week, we open our doors to the blind, young or old. In full cooperation with the National Camps for the Blind, blind campers are picked up from all over New England, and brought to Camp.
Blind campers enjoy all the luxuries of camp, just like anyone else. Although special care is given in some cases, the campers are encouraged to do many things on their own, giving a sense of self-worth and independency. Ropes and lines are set up all over the campgrounds, leading to each building. Throughout the week, they find their way (on their own) to wherever they need to go. Whether it's archery or waterskiiing--they can get there.
Typically, we have about 75 campers per week. All campers are registered through the National Camps for the Blind. Camper ages range from approximately 14 years old to 84 years old. Campers are divided usually by age group into the various cabins.
