Camp Kismet, located at Fayette County 4H Park in Beckwith, was originally started as a summer camp for abused and neglected children in Fayette County. Over the years, its mission expanded to include underprivileged and low-income campers.
Erskine said Camp Kismet takes campers as young as 5, and as old as 12. For many, the camp may be the only vacation or fun time they have during the year.
“We’ve had several campers down through the years who have spanned the whole time,” said Erskine, who is in his 14th year volunteering at the camp.
